Ho Ho Ho, Merry Christmas! The Christmas 2011 Asian Invitational Basketball Tournament was held on Saturday December 3 and Saturday December 17, 2011 at the brand new Fels High School. Special thanks to our best friends over at Philadelphia FACAA. In all, 12 teams took part in the event, and both weekends, it was NY USAB who emerged as the Champs.
In the Mens Friendship, the Warriors came back from a 15-point deficit against Lightyear Studio, as Kevin Chang and Kevin Quach combined to sink 7 triples. In all, USAB hit 13 treyballs to win 60-57.
In the Mens Elite, it was anyone's guess who would come out on top, with perennial NACBA contenders NY USAB, NY RL Cruisers, and the Toronto Dragons were all in attendance. But Toronto's two top bigs both went down in their first game, so things just didn't go their way. After that, it would be a contest between the RL Cruisers and USAB to see who would take it home. In the end, USAB earned the all important bye after pool play, and the Cruisers were forced to play their 5th game in 8 hours by the time they reached the Championship. USAB took advantage of the extra rest as Nick Mui, Justin Kao, and Andrew Lichtenstein sparked a 42-32 win over the Cruisers in the Finals.
